BOTSWANA TRILOGY- Luxury

6 Nights in three of the Best Camps botswana has to offer

Day 1 - 2 - Moremi Game Reserve , Okovango Delta

Upon arrival in Maun, you will be met by a representative of the air charter company who will assist in the transfer to a shared light aircraft for an exciting flight to Shinde. Your Safari Guide will meet you on the end of the airstrip and drive to our private campsite. Shinde, meaning ‘tree squirrel’ in Setswana, is situated on the edge of an area of deep water and lagoons in the heart of the Okavango Delta. It’s a well-established camp in a private reserve just to the north of the Moremi Game Reserve. Its wide open floodplains sit alongside some very pretty waterways, allowing for a mixture of both land and water activities.

Shinde is quite a traditional safari camp with a very atmospheric tree-house feel to the main area. The rooms are relatively small but we do like this camp for its mix of both water- and land-based activities, and for its team of experienced guides – although big game can be a little sporadic. Shinde also works well in combination with dry-area camps in both the Delta and the Kwando–Linyanti/Chobe areas.

Day 3 - 4 - Khwai River , Okovango Delta

After your morning game drive you take a charter flight to Khwai tented camp. The Camp has recently been relocated to a semi-permanent site within this community-run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game Reserve. The new exclusive location of the Khwai Tented Camp, on the banks of a lagoon flowing into the Khwai River, acts as a boundary between the reserve and the community area, offering visitors staying here several unique ways to experience Africa. Besides the day-time drives which can feature Africa’s big attractions – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe – guests at Khwai Tented Camp are able to explore nature after sunset with a night drive. This activity, along with the guided walking safaris, is not usually permitted in the National Parks or Game Reserves, and allows guests to get an up close and personal experience with some of Africa’s nocturnal and / or more elusive animals. The camp also provides the opportunity to explore the great stands of leadwood and mopane woodlands as well as open grasslands and banks of the Khwai River on foot.

The camp preserves the romance of yester-year, a simpler life in harmony with nature. There are no permanent structures; everything can be removed to leave the wilderness exactly as we found it, minimizing our impact on the environment. Guests can enjoy spacious and comfortable tented accommodation, beds and private en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and bucket showers under the stars. As the Khwai is a community-run concession all proceeds from tourism go directly to help local people and local projects through the Khwai Community Trust.

Day 5 - 6 - Chobe, Northern Botswana

After your morning game drive you take a charter flight to Linyanti Bush Camp. This Camp offers the perfect setting for an authentic and wild safari experience. As the only source of water in the dry months, the Linyanti marshes are one of the most sought after destinations in Northern Botswana, boasting a great diversity of game and a peaceful atmosphere. The area offers spectacular birding all year round and is best known for its large herds of elephants that move down to the Linyanti River at the start of the winter months and only move back inland once the main rains arrive. Lion, sable, roan, leopard, and wild dog are also frequent visitors to Linyanti as is the elusive sitatunga antelope, red lechwe, hippo and crocodile.

Bordering the western boundary of Chobe in the Chobe Enclave, the Linyanti Bush Camp is an intimate 12-bedded tented camp on the banks of the Linyanti marshes in a private reserve. The camp is limited to small exclusive groups who seek a personalized experience in a private concession away from the main tourist’s routes. Activities from the camp include game drives, walking safaris, game viewing from hides, spot-lighting, bird watching, boating and fishing safaris as well as guided mokoro safaris. Accommodation is far from primitive with spacious tents, comfortable beds, and en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets, fixed showers and hot water.
