The start of our journey takes us south to the heart of the Namib Desert with a drive to our private camp set up near Sossusvlei. Our mornings are spent in the national park of Sossusvlei, stopping in the dune belt to enjoy the changing colors of the world's highest sand dunes. We have opportunities to photograph and explore these dunes and vleis (marshes that have since dried) extensively over the next few days. We will also spend some time viewing Sesriem Canyon.

Day 5 - Spitzkoppe
DATE

This morning we head down to Sandwich Harbour. After a short stop at Walvis Bay Lagoon to see flamingoes, we return to our route via the Kuiseb River delta, a dry riverbed where the odd springbok may be seen.  Beautiful dunes have to be crossed to get to Sandwich Harbour and if weather and tides permit, we will drive right to the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon, one of Southern Africa’s richest and unique wetlands.  Wedged between the sea and the Namib Dunes, potable water seeping from the underground aquifer sustains the freshwater vegetation at the base of the dunes.  If our vehicles cannot drive all along the beach to get to Sandwich Harbour because of the tides, you will have a chance to enjoy the lagoon area from one of our many beautiful lookout spots, where we will also indulge in walking and exploration.  We have lots of time to stop along the way for photography.

After returning to Swakopmund we continue onwards to Spitzkoppe and arrive late afternoon in time to walk and explore the fascinating rock features;

Spitzkoppe is also described as the “Matterhorn of Namibia”. Rising to an altitude of about 1800 meters, the Spitzkoppe, due to its striking outlines, it is regarded as the most well-known mountain in the country. Situated in an endless, dry plain, the island of mountains can be seen from far away. The rock arch at Spitzkoppe is famous and very popular among photographers - we will do our best to shoot arch this afternoon and perhaps also under starlight tonight or the following morning (early!)

Day 6 - Damaraland - Himba Tribe Visit
