DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1 - 3
Your adventure begins in Kigali, where you are met by your private guide and vehicle upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. The day is spent exploring the capital city, starting with a guided tour that highlights Kigali's modern charm and its profound history. A visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial provides a sobering but important perspective on Rwanda's journey toward reconciliation. Afterward, enjoy a quick lunch at a local restaurant before embarking on a scenic three-hour drive eastward to Akagera National Park. This low-lying park, rich in savannah and lakes, is a striking contrast to Rwanda's famous highlands. Upon arrival, you’ll check into Ruzizi Tented Lodge, an intimate eco-lodge tucked along the shores of Lake Ihema. The lodge offers a serene setting with comfortable tented accommodations, perfect for relaxing after your first day in Rwanda.
The next two days are dedicated to exploring Akagera National Park. Early morning game drives take you deep into the park, where you’ll have the chance to spot the Big Five—lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, and rhinos—as well as other wildlife like giraffes, zebras, and antelope. Akagera is also a haven for bird enthusiasts, with species such as African fish eagles, crowned cranes, and kingfishers commonly sighted. Afternoons bring a change of pace with a leisurely boat safari on Lake Ihema. From the water, you’ll have close-up encounters with pods of hippos and basking crocodiles, as well as numerous water birds. Evenings back at Ruzizi Camp are tranquil, offering time to unwind by the campfire under the starlit African sky.

DAY 4 & 5
On Day 4, you’ll bid farewell to Akagera and drive back through Kigali before continuing northwest to Volcanoes National Park. The journey, which takes about five to six hours in total, is an opportunity to take in Rwanda’s stunning landscapes of rolling hills, tea plantations, and bustling villages. Your destination is the Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, a charming and luxurious property nestled at the edge of the park. With its beautifully landscaped gardens, heated swimming pool, and welcoming ambiance, the hotel is an ideal base for your mountain adventures.
Day 5 is one of the most anticipated moments of your safari: gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing before embarking on your trek. Led by an experienced guide, the hike takes you through dense, misty forests to meet one of the habituated gorilla families. The experience of observing these gentle giants up close in their natural habitat is both awe-inspiring and humbling. Depending on the location of the gorillas, the trek can last anywhere from two to six hours. In the afternoon, if time and weather permit, you might visit the picturesque twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, known for their emerald waters and tranquil beauty, or explore the lively local markets in Musanze town.

DEPART
Your final day begins with another memorable wildlife encounter as you return to Volcanoes National Park to track golden monkeys. These playful primates, unique to the Virunga region, are a delight to watch as they leap through the bamboo forests. Following your trek, you’ll be transferred back to Kigali, arriving in time for your international departure flight. As your safari comes to an end, you’ll leave Rwanda with incredible memories of its wildlife, landscapes, and warm hospitality.
