DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1  Lusaka – Royal   Proflight Zambia 1400/1500 via Jeki

On arrival at Royal airstrip you will be met by a guide from Baines River Camp who will transfer

you to camp.

Day 1-4 BAINES’ RIVER CAMP –3 nights

Baines River Camp has been designed and built with comfort and enjoyment of your surroundings in mind! The 9 suites are elegantly furnished and are very spacious with walk in showers, separate dressing areas and king or twin beds. Each suite also has air-conditioning and ceiling fans. The main lodge has an old-fashioned slightly Colonial feel with fireplaces as well as open verandahs where you can enjoy their wonderful views of the Zambezi river.

Positioned  within the Chiawa Game Management Area, right next to the Lower Zambezi National Park, Baines’ River Camp offers an expansive playground spanning over 5,500 square kilometres. Here, sweeping vistas of the Zambezi River unfold, extending all the way to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mana Pools in neighbouring Zimbabwe. The focus here is on the river and boat safaris along it, with fishing, canoeing and then game drives are taken in the national park following a 45 minute boat trip to the entry point. Safari walks are also possible along with a visit to the Conservation Lower Zambezi offices. The lodge loves to organise extra surprise activities for guests including drinks or meals in especially scenic places, beach boules on a sand island in the middle of the river, or a gin tasting perhaps, sampling some of the delicious new gins being created in Africa now.

The Lower Zambezi is renowned for its stunning landscapes, which include lush floodplains, dense woodlands, and the majestic Zambezi River. As you explore the park, you'll be captivated by the breathtaking scenery and the tranquility of the wilderness. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, lions, leopards, and numerous bird species. Game drives offer excellent opportunities to spot these animals in their natural habitat, often in close proximity. The Zambezi River plays a crucial role in the park's ecosystem, providing a vital water source for wildlife and supporting a diverse range of habitats. Game drives along the river allow you to observe animals drinking, swimming, and interacting with their environment.

Rates include all meals, non-premium drinks, twice daily safari activities, internal road transfers from Royal Airstrip, SES, wifi, VAT, 10% service charge, tourism levies & laundry.

Day 4-6, KAFUNTA RIVER LODGE – 3 nights

A 45 minute drive takes you to the heart of South Luangwa National Park, where Kafunta River Lodge awaits with its classic charm and prime location at the edge of a game-rich floodplain. Step onto your private viewing deck and breathe in the breathtaking panorama of wildlife roaming freely beyond the Luangwa River, one of Africa's premier game viewing areas.

Indulge in the comfort of your luxurious chalet, perched on a raised platform for unobstructed views. Unwind in your tastefully decorated haven, complete with a cozy sitting area, refreshing beverages, and a private bathroom. For an extra touch of luxury, opt for one of the spacious suites boasting a mezzanine with day beds and an open balcony, perfect for savoring the endless vistas.

Gather in the stylish lounge and dining area, a thatched haven overlooking the untouched wilderness. Relax on the expansive decks, soaking in the sights and sounds of nature's vibrant show. As the sun dips below the horizon, savor delectable candlelit meals beneath the vast African sky, serenaded by the gentle sounds of hippos and wildlife lullabies.

Embark on exhilarating game drives, starting from their private river crossing, unlocking remote areas of the park teeming with wildlife. Choose between diverse loops and lagoons in the northern sector, all led by experienced guides who share their deep knowledge of the park's secrets. For a truly immersive experience, opt for early morning walks or overnight bush camps, venturing deep into the untouched wilderness.

As the day draws to a close, witness the spectacular African sunset during an afternoon game drive, culminating in a traditional sundowner amidst the breathtaking scenery. Then, embark on a thrilling night safari in search of nocturnal creatures, uncovering the hidden wonders of the darkness.

Unwind after a day of exploration in the lodge's unique oasis. Take a refreshing dip in the infinity pool, or indulge in the tranquility of the only natural hot tub in the Luangwa Valley, its warm waters fed by a geothermal source. During cooler nights, this therapeutic soak becomes the perfect ending to an unforgettable safari adventure.

A typical day on safari here is

Rise with the sun for a delectable breakfast adventure. Savor freshly baked bread and pastries, steaming winter porridges, vibrant fruit salads, and homemade granola on the main deck. Choose your fuel from a symphony of milks and yogurts—all while the day's anticipation simmers.

Mid-morning beckons with a delightful brunch transformation. Nestled under the thatched roof's cool embrace, the lounge transforms into a buffet brimming with tempting hot dishes and wholesome salads. Indulge in this culinary oasis before your next safari escapade.

As the afternoon stretches, gather for a charming afternoon tea ritual at 3 pm. This delightful interlude precedes your next adventure, preparing your palate for the evening's delights.

Return from your explorations to a four-course feast under a canopy of stars. Imagine flickering candlelight illuminating private tables thoughtfully spaced across the decks, with the gentle symphony of hippos in the waterhole as your soundtrack. Our culinary maestros are dedicated to crafting an exceptional experience, catering to even the most discerning dietary preferences.

Rates here include accommodation, two-game viewing activities per day, all meals & snacks, standard drinks (excluding premium brands), laundry, Mfuwe airport & inter-camp transfers, and all taxes. Our figures generally include park fees at time of publishing which are paid per person per day.

Day 7 & 8, Three Rivers Camp - 2 nights

The lodge will transfer you south to the confluence of three rivers - the Zambezi, the Kafunta, and the Chiawa - where the lodge is located, and again the lodge is perched high up on the bank of the Luangwa River - where there are always hippos and crocodiles to provides breathtaking views and a tranquil atmosphere.

Three Rivers Camp features five elegant, canvas cabins that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, two are on the river and three face inland over the floodplain. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with en-suite bathrooms and private decks that provide stunning views of the river and wildlife. They also have amazing star decks, built up high for safety and where you can sleep under the moon and enjoy the natural breezes. The main lodge area is a circular, and completey open design, again allowing the flow of air for the warm climate. A single dining table encourages socializing and the small firepit is alongside the river where drinks and breakfast are enjoyed.

Activities here are a blend of game drives and safari walks with expert guides, the habitats really are ideal for walking where you are likely to see good plains game, elephant and excellent bird life.
