Xigera Safari Lodge is found deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta, among seasonal floodplains and riverine forests, tawny grasslands and papyrus wetlands. Resting on the western edge of the Moremi Game Reserve, within the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Xigera offers experiences both on land and on the water.
All but hidden amid a canopy of magnificent indigenous trees, Xigera Safari Lodge offers 12 spacious suites; each individually designed. For multi-generational safari travellers, there is the impressive two-bedroom Family Suite.
Each of the 12 guest suites takes full advantage of the location, amongst the boughs of indigenous forests and with views over seasonal floodplains filled with wildlife. Spread across two islands to retain the sense of wilderness, and ensure privacy and peacefulness for guests, each suite sits on raised stilts, allowing both wildlife and the life-giving waters of the Okavango to pass beneath. The suites utilise a medley of materials, textures and colours. Within each suite, design exists cohesively in a jewel-like layering of materials and texture including timber, bronze and hand-carved wood.
Individually, each suite is designed as a living gallery of African art and design, a celebration of the continent’s creativity, honouring indigenous traditions while seeking out bold new interpretations.
Xigera art and creativity is expressed in their treehouse - a remarkable Baobab Treehouse, built from steel and situated one kilometre away from the lodge amid a stand of indigenous Croton trees, is built in the evocative shape of a baobab tree – ascends nearly 10 metres above the floodplain, offering panoramic views from each of its three levels.
The food at Xigera is at the same high level as the rest of the lodge, seamlessly blending fresh local ingredients and African inspiration, with the tradition of refined cuisine that has long been a hallmark of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection. The ever-changing menus at Xigera have been created by their most talented chefs, and are faultlessly executed day after day.
The lodge is part art gallery and a unique celebration of African culture and creativity. Conceptualised by Toni Tollman, Philip Fourie and Anton de Kock – in collaboration with award-winning South African gallery Southern Guild – the Xigera Design Collection is breathtaking in both its scope and bold vision; a living gallery of African creativity and craftsmanship, with bespoke works commissioned exclusively for the lodge from some of Africa's most exciting young artists and artisans.
Xigera showcases an extraordinary collection of pan-African art and design, created by a roster of 80 of Africa’s most globally acclaimed designers. It is a collection that is bold in vision and groundbreaking in its scope, the first of its kind on the continent, discovered throughout the lodge; delighting, surprising and inspiring guests at every turn.
