As communities become more involved in tourism, many lodges are in close contact with their local village or community and are able to visit them to gain insight to their traditions and cultures. From the Himba in Namibia, the Bushmen in Botswana, the Maasai in East Africa, down to the Zulu's in South Africa - and many more, we can tailor your safari around a selection of these experiences.

There are many contrived and superficial tribal dancing groups, and manufactured villages where you can 'learn' about traditional cultures and customs - we seldom support these but will rather  take you to a market or stop casually at a village along the way, where you will see the real customs of that country or tribe.

We also arrange visits to South Africa's 'townships' like Soweto in Johannesburg and Khayaletsha in Cape Town, where you can see the daily activities and lives of people, some fortunate and many less fortunate than ourselves. Schools and hospitals are also of interest to many people. Each experience is different yet fascinating.
