The link between safari travel and conservation is not always clear. In my travels around Africa I have had a keen eye on companies and destinations that are making a difference; having a real and direct impact by protecting a particular species, region, park or habitat - usually in collaboration with the local communities. It may be through funding anti-poaching activities, sponsoring research of a species, enabling an activity that protects a species, engaging and employing the local community through skills development, job creation or wildlife monitoring. By travelling to these lodges a significant portion of your funds is channelled directly to conservation, and your choice to travel here, has a real impact.
