THE FULL STORY

The lodge style at Amanzi is classic yet refined. Understated, elegant tented accommodation raised on teak decks beneath large indigenous trees is linked to a central lounge, bar and dining area by raised walkways that keep the footprint of the camp light and allow wildlife to wander freely around. A shaded pool and sun deck overlooking the river add to the sense of peaceful riverside living, with spaces designed to draw your eye out into the wilderness beyond.

Accommodation consists of just four spacious tented suites, making the atmosphere highly intimate and private. Each suite sits on a raised deck, has an indoor en-suite bathroom, comfortable sitting area and a covered veranda with panoramic views over the Zambezi, and features king- or double-size beds under mosquito nets that evoke the classic safari experience. Two of the tents can be joined to form a two-bedroom family unit, ideal for families or small groups who want shared space. Facilities in the tents are designed for comfort and convenience, including 24-hour power, quality linen, private decks and uninterrupted views across the river channel.

The facilities around camp support both relaxation and wildlife engagement. In the main lodge you’ll find an open-sided lounge and dining area with sweeping river views, a fully stocked bar, and a swimming pool set low on the riverbank for cooling off or watching wildlife come down to drink. Raised boardwalks connect all spaces while keeping the layout open and wild, and common areas are shaded and furnished with comfortable seating for sundowners, meals and quiet moments listening to the sounds of the bush.

Activities from Amanzi focus on twice-daily game drives in the rich wildlife areas of the Lower Zambezi, walking safaris take you deeper into the woodlands with expert guides, and canoe and boat safaris along the Ngwenya Channel and the main river allow close encounters with hippos, elephants, crocodiles and birds. Fishing for tigerfish, birdwatching and night drives are also regular offerings, with knowledgeable guides ensuring safe, exciting and educational outings into the wild.

The camp’s location within the eastern reaches of Lower Zambezi National Park places it in one of Zambia’s most scenic and wildlife-rich safari regions. It sits on a high riverbank above the Ngwenya Channel, offering calm water views and easy access to both river-based and overland safari routes. To get there guests typically fly from Lusaka (Zambia’s capital) by light aircraft to Jeki Airstrip, followed by a scenic 4×4 transfer through the park to the camp. Private charters to a closer airstrip near the camp can also be arranged for added convenience.
