THE FULL STORY

Accommodation at Baines’ River Camp is intimate and thoughtfully curated, with only eight individually named safari suites and a two-bedroom family cottage, collectively hosting up to 20 guests. Each suite is a private sanctuary with generous interiors, air-conditioning and ceiling fans, en-suite bathrooms, walk-in showers, and well-appointed verandas facing the river where you can unwind with binoculars or a book. The décor blends classical fabrics, leather and timbers, and many of the suites offer uninterrupted views of the Zambezi and the wildlife that wanders along its banks. The family unit features two bedrooms and its own communal living and dining space, ideal for groups or families seeking a shared safari experience.

Facilities at the lodge go beyond simple accommodation, creating an atmosphere of relaxed luxury. The central areas include open-air lounges, a firelit bar, and dining spaces that frame views of the river. A swimming pool provides a refreshing spot to relax between activities, and there are spaces for work or social gatherings, including a boardroom and Wi-Fi coverage. Guests can also enjoy beauty and spa treatments in the privacy of their suite or around camp under the African sky.

Activities at Baines’ River Camp are designed to immerse you in the natural beauty and wildlife wonders of the Lower Zambezi. Guided game drives into the Lower Zambezi National Park bring you face-to-face with elephants, buffalo and an array of other species, while river safaris by motorboat or traditional canoe reveal hippos, crocodiles and prolific birdlife. Fishing for the legendary Tiger Fish is a highlight for anglers, and sundowner cruises or walking safaris offer peaceful, unforgettable moments in the bush. For those seeking deeper engagement, workshops on photography, bird watching and conservation themes are also on offer.

The lodge’s location is truly remote, set within the Chiawa Game Management Area just outside the formal park boundary, where wildlife roam freely along the vast riverbanks. It’s accessible by daily charter flights from Lusaka, Livingstone and other gateways to Royal Airstrip, with guides awaiting arrivals to transfer guests to the camp. For those travelling by road, it’s about a one-hour drive from Lusaka, making it reachable yet still deeply removed from the bustle of city life. This blend of accessibility and wilderness immersion makes Baines’ River Camp a special destination for luxury safari adventures in Zambia.
