THE FULL STORY
The camp is deliberately simple and authentic in its design, built to blend seamlessly into its surroundings. Constructed from natural materials such as wood, canvas, and thatch, Ntemwa-Busanga embraces a classic bush camp aesthetic with a light footprint. The central area is open-sided, allowing uninterrupted views across the plains, and is positioned to take advantage of the cooling breezes and ever-changing light. The atmosphere is relaxed and understated, with an emphasis on connection to the environment rather than luxury in the conventional sense.
Accommodation typically consists of a handful of spacious, Meru-style safari tents set on slightly raised decks. The tents are airy and thoughtfully positioned for privacy, each offering sweeping views over the Busanga Plains. Inside, the style is classic and comfortable, with large beds draped in mosquito netting, simple but tasteful furnishings, and en-suite bathrooms that often feature bucket showers and eco-conscious systems in keeping with the camp’s remote setting. The experience is intentionally close to nature, with the sounds of the plains ever-present.
The main area serves as the social heart of the camp, where guests gather for meals, drinks, and storytelling around the fire. Dining is typically communal, enhancing the convivial safari atmosphere, and meals are freshly prepared with a surprising level of quality given the camp’s isolation. Evenings are often spent under the stars, with lantern light and the distant calls of wildlife creating a memorable ambiance.
Activities at the camp focus on exploring the Busanga Plains, on safari drives in open 4x4 vehicles with highly experienced guides who are adept at tracking predators such as lion, cheetah, and hyena. The plains are also known for large herds of red lechwe and buffalo, attracting impressive predator action.
The location of Ntemwa-Busanga is one of its greatest strengths. Situated in the northern sector of Kafue National Park, the Busanga Plains are a vast floodplain system that remains largely untouched due to its inaccessibility for much of the year. Access is typically by light aircraft into Busanga Airstrip, followed by a game drive transfer to camp. This remoteness ensures low visitor numbers and a sense of exclusivity that is increasingly rare in African safari destinations. Guests choose Ntemwa-Busanga for its combination of exceptional guiding, prolific wildlife, and the feeling of being truly off the beaten track.
