The design is sophisticated yet deliberately understated, in keeping with the Wildplaces philosophy. The main lodge is airy and open, decorated in soft, muted tones that reflect the surrounding water and landscape, creating a calm and timeless atmosphere rather than overt luxury. Large decks and communal spaces are orientated towards the channel, allowing wildlife viewing to become part of the everyday rhythm of the camp—often without needing to leave your seat.

Accommodation consists of a small collection of beautifully appointed rooms, each positioned to maximise views across the channel, forest canopy or distant volcanic ranges. The rooms are spacious and contemporary in feel, with en-suite bathrooms, outdoor showers and private plunge pools that allow guests to cool off while watching wildlife pass below. The overall style blends comfort with a strong connection to the outdoors, maintaining a sense of place while offering a high level of privacy and refinement.

Facilities are thoughtfully integrated rather than extensive, centred around relaxation and immersion in the landscape. Chimpanzee tracking in nearby Kyambura Gorge offers a dramatic contrast to the savannah experience, while boat safaris along the Kazinga Channel—particularly by the lodge’s traditional sailing dhow—provide a slower, more atmospheric way to encounter wildlife. Guided walks, birding and night drives further enhance the sense of exploration in this quieter, less-visited sector of the park.

Access to The River Station is typically via Kasese airstrip followed by a scenic road transfer, or by road from Kampala for those on a longer journey through western Uganda. The final approach often involves the water itself, reinforcing the lodge’s connection to the channel and setting the tone for a stay defined by river, wildlife and space.
