THE FULL STORY
The style of the lodge blends classic East African tented safari charm with rustic luxury, using natural materials, thatch and locally inspired décor that integrates with the mopane woodland and lakeshore environment; communal spaces such as the open-air lounge and dining deck, shaded by thatch with lake views, create a relaxed and friendly social atmosphere where guests gather.
Accommodation consists of eight luxury tented suites – a mix of standard and family tents – each with private verandas overlooking Lake Kariba, en-suite bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers, baths “under the stars,” fans for warmer weather and furnishings that feel comfortable yet connected to the natural surroundings, so whether relaxing on your deck or enjoying the outdoor bath you feel immersed in the wilderness.
Facilities focus on comfort and relaxation with a central thatched lounge and dining area, bar and fire pit overlooking the lake, a swimming pool with broad water views, spa offerings and Wi-Fi in social areas, while meals often mix alfresco dining on the deck or beach with candle-lit dinners beside the water.
Activities embrace both land and water safari experiences, including guided game drives and scenic bush walks led by experienced guides, boat safaris on Lake Kariba and excursions to places like the Sanyati Gorge, birdwatching, fishing for tiger fish, sundowner cruises and simply enjoying the abundant bird and wildlife around the camp itself. Matusadona is now run by African Parks who are leaders in restoring parks so we look forward to progress in park management and wildlife.
Getting to Changa involves flying into the national park airstrip and transferring to the camp. Almost all guest comment on the breathtaking setting on Lake Kariba and the personal, friendly service, with many praising the excellent food, comfortable and thoughtfully equipped tents and unforgettable experiences such as watching elephants graze near camp or taking boat trips to see hippos and crocodiles. This is not the place for abundant predators although they are here, it is a place to savour the lake environment and other species that are abundant - making Changa perfect as a combination with Hwange and for those who enjoy the water-bush combination and laid-back safari style.
