THE FULL STORY
The style of the lodge is timeless African safari simplicity with earthy décor and meru-style canvas tents set on concrete verandahs facing the waterhole; the main communal area is open and airy with a lounge, small bar and dining space opening onto a deck, fire pit and a shaded elevated viewing platform that all frame the vast landscape and wildlife beyond.
Rooms are comfortable but unfussy tented chalets with twin beds or a double, ceiling fans, broad mesh windows for panoramic views of the waterhole and ensuite bathrooms with showers and flush toilets; there’s also one family tent with two bedrooms and private facilities, while verandahs provide a front-row seat to wildlife activity.
Facilities centre around the open camp design with a swimming pool and loungers for midday rest, communal dining under canvas, an open boma space for fireside evenings, and a viewing deck perfect for sundowners and watching animals drink at the waterhole; complimentary laundry and modest internet access are provided, but ambience remains firmly rooted in the wilderness.
Activities are classic Hwange safari pursuits with twice-daily open 4×4 game drives into the concession and farther into the national park to seek lions, giraffe, sable and other big game, guided walking safaris for a slower pace and learning bushcraft, and nocturnal drives with spotlighting for night wildlife encounters, while cultural visits to nearby villages can also be arranged. There is also a sleep-out deck that can be arranged for a night by a waterhole and under the stars.
Getting there typically involves a fly-and-transfer route via their airstrip followed by a road transfer into the concession, or a longer drive from Victoria Falls, immersing you in the vast landscape and wildlife of Hwange as you approach camp.
Guests often comment on the prime wildlife viewing right from camp, they have the bennefit of con-joined concessions so it is way larger than most concessions, shared with their two other sister camps, but this offers the best value and more-than-comfortable tents and professional guiding. The camp has friendly staff and maintains an authentic atmosphere that we love.
