Sleep Out Under the Stars in Africa on a luxury African safari!

Firstly what is a Sleep-Out or Sleep-Out Deck?

It is a place where you can sleep outside, safely, and fully immerse yourselves in the sights and sounds of the bush. Hear the calls of the hyenas and jackals, the chatter of the birds at dusk and again at dawn. Observe the spectacular sky with the Southern Cross constellation glittering above you and of course the glorious African sunset and sunrise…

Most sleep out decks have a romantic element and as such are aimed at couples and not groups. In some cases you are taken to a dedicated, safe place or deck area, where you stay the night, with either a scout or ranger not too far away or you are given a radio system to call up a ranger, should there be an emergency.

The other option, that is becoming more popular at newer luxury safari camps that are redesigned or built from scratch, has some sort of an outdoor ‘sala’ (sleeping area) where you can sleep under the stars but still within the confines of your accommodation, so you can slip indoors if you felt the need.

You might choose to fly camp for a couple of nights and if the tents are designed as such, you can view a million stars!
